For my second blog post I will be writing about the Governor of Florida's decision to issue a state of emergency ahead of an alt-right speech from BBC News, http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-41654975. The author's diction does not tell create a lot of the author's emotion. The author did not write their own opinion and kept it hidden pretty well. They did this by quoting the people they are writing about and just explaining what is happening, but they do talk about what Spencer has done in the past and it brings a negative feeling toward him. They used ethos to explain past events that Richard Spencer was apart of and why the governor declared a state of emergency: "At that event in Charlottesville, which Mr Spencer helped organize, a large group of far-right activists chanted "Jews will not replace us" and "blood and soil" (a Nazi slogan)". This helps give the reader a clue to as who Richard Spencer is and he is not a very good person so bringing up his credits help add to why the Governor's decision is probably a good one. The author's tone is very minimal. They do not really show their emotion through the article as they just simply explain what is happening between the alt-right and the state of Florida. The author's purpose is to explain to the public that the governor of Florida has issued a state of emergency due to Richard Spencer speaking at the University of Florida on Thursday. The author does not show their position in the article, but the article is valuable because it tells us why the governor feels that why and Spencer's reaction.
